Cedric Simelane is more than just a comedian, he’s a movement. Hailing from Hlatikulu and now based in Mbabane, Cedric has used his rural roots and urban journey as the backbone of his comedy. His breakout one-man show, Umfanwagogo: From Hlatikulu to the Capital, sold out and marked a major milestone in his career.
Now, with a TikTok following of 90,000+, and a steady stream of hilarious content on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads (@Cedric_Simelane), Cedric continues to build platforms for local comedians to shine.
According to Cedric, Last Friday Gags is more than just a gig, it’s a space for experimentation, growth, and giving others a spotlight. “We feature a new lineup each month to keep the energy fresh. This time around, Bongiswa, Darren, and Christian bring their own unique styles. I’m really looking forward to it,” he shares.
When asked why he chose comedy, Cedric jokes, “The Joker said, ‘Laughter is the best medicine, but if you laugh for no reason, you need medicine.’ I just want to give people a reason to laugh.” For him, comedy is therapy, not just for his audience, but for himself as a creator.
He draws material from everyday experiences, especially from his day job as a tour guide in the tourism industry. “Funny things happen daily. Life is literally my content generator,” he says.
“You’ve seen the venue, you know the time, but I promise, it’s a brand-new experience,” Cedric teases. He’s bringing fresh jokes, real stories, and maybe a few on-stage surprises. “I revisit old sets, test new material, and always aim to be better. That’s what Last Friday Gags is about.”
