NGABEZWENI – Imbali at the Umhlanga Ceremony have been sensitised on the importance of the 2027 Population and Housing Census as the country continues preparations for the national exercise.
The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, through the Central Statistical Office (CSO), conducted the engagement with Imbali at Ngabezweni Royal Residence as part of Phase I of the Population and Housing Census sensitisation programme.
The engagement provided an opportunity for the Imbali to learn about the significance of the Census and the role they can play in supporting its successful implementation. The 2027 Population and Housing Census is expected to provide essential information on the population and living conditions of people in Eswatini. This information will support evidence-based planning, policy formulation and effective allocation of national resources.
Through the sensitisation programme, the CSO is engaging communities and key stakeholders across the country to increase public understanding of the Census ahead of its implementation.
The engagement at Ngabezweni forms part of these efforts to ensure that different groups within society are informed about the national exercise and understand the importance of participating when the Census is conducted.
The Census is an important source of information for government and other stakeholders as it provides data that can be used to understand the needs of communities and guide the provision of services.
For the Imbali, the sensitisation also provides an opportunity to become informed about a national exercise that will require the participation and cooperation of communities across Eswatini.
The Ministry of Economic Planning and Development continues to encourage public awareness and participation as the country moves towards the 2027 Population and Housing Census.
The engagement with Imbali demonstrates the importance of reaching people where they gather and using major national events as opportunities to share information on programmes that affect the country as a whole. As preparations continue, the CSO is expected to maintain its engagement with communities and stakeholders to ensure that Emaswati are well-informed and prepared to participate in the Census.
