MBABANE- On Saturday, 28 March 2026, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, Eswatini will join the rest of the world in marking the 20th anniversary of Earth Hour, a global environmental movement that has grown into the largest symbolic action for climate change and nature protection.
This year’s call to action, “Create the Biggest Hour for Earth,” reminds us that while switching off our lights for one hour is powerful, our collective actions beyond the hour are what truly drive long-term impact.
As the national electricity utility, the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) is honoured to coordinate the national Earth Hour campaign, not as the owner of the initiative, but as a committed partner among many. Earth Hour in Eswatini is a collective platform, bringing together government institutions, municipalities, private sector leaders, civil society and communities under one shared mission: to secure a sustainable and resilient future for our nation.
A Growing Coalition for Climate Action
Earth Hour 2026 is being shaped by a broad coalition of partners including:
MNRE (Department of Energy), MoTEA (Department of Meteorology), ESERA, EEA, Standard Bank, Eswatini Sugar, Galp Energia, MTN, Ubombo Sugar, PELUM Eswatini, Babylon, Eyestudio Multimedia, House on Fire, EWSC, Lactalis Eswatini, Mondelez International, Eswatini Beverages, Siteki Town Council, Piggs Peak Town Council, Nhlangano Town Council, Matsapha Town Council, and Mbabane Town Council.
Their contributions, both financial and in‑kind, are helping strengthen public education on energy conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable living. Their support is enabling nationwide activities, from launch and symposium, green walks, clean-up campaigns, youth outreach, media engagement, and the national switch-off moment.
This collaboration demonstrates that sustainability is not the responsibility of one institution, it is a shared national effort.
