MBABANE – The Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) has intensified its fight against illicit drugs following the arrest of four suspects found in possession of large quantities of dagga in separate operations carried out across the country this week.
The arrests, which resulted in the seizure of over 80 kilograms of dagga, form part of the police service’s ongoing nationwide campaign aimed at dismantling crime syndicates and protecting communities from drug related crimes.
According to police reports, Buhleni police arrested a 23 year old man from Eluphikweni and a 39 year old woman from Ntshanini after officers allegedly discovered 26.7 kilograms of dagga inside a house at Eluphikweni on May 26 2026, at around 5:30am. The suspects were charged for possession of dagga without a licence or permit.
In another operation, Bhunya police arrested a 24 year old man from Mgotshane after he was allegedly found transporting 37.68 kilograms of dagga in a Toyota Tazz on May 25 2026, at approximately 10:10pm.
Meanwhile, Nhlangano police also arrested a 24 year old man from Luve who was allegedly found in possession of 7.985 kilograms of dagga at Machobeni on May 24. Lubulini police further arrested a 30 year old man from Siphofaneni, Mkhaya after he was allegedly found with 8.1 kilograms of dagga at Nsoko Junction on the same day.
The latest arrests highlight the growing determination of the Royal Eswatini Police Service to eliminate the illegal drug trade, which authorities say contributes significantly to violent crimes, including murder, domestic violence, robbery and youth delinquency.
REPS has repeatedly emphasized that dagga trafficking and dealing remain a serious concern because of their impact on families and communities. Through intensified patrols, intelligence-driven operations and roadblocks, police officers continue to demonstrate commitment to ensuring public safety and restoring peace in affected areas.
Community members have also been encouraged to work closely with law enforcement authorities by reporting suspicious activities linked to drug trafficking and organised crime.
Police have vowed to continue strengthening operations across the country as part of their mission to create safer communities and protect the nation’s future from the destructive effects of illicit drugs.
