MBABANE– Eswatini has taken another decisive step towards strengthening its digital infrastructure following the successful completion of a week-long Domain Name Systems (DNS) workshop hosted by the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology and ESCCOM at the Hilton Garden Inn Mbabane.
The intensive workshop, which started on Monday, brought together technology professionals from government institutions, academia, the telecommunications sector, banks and digital financial service providers. The initiative formed part of a strategic partnership with the Cybersecurity Capacity Centre for Southern Africa at University of Cape Town.
Over the course of the programme, participants explored critical aspects of DNS security, operational resilience and mechanisms to combat DNS abuse, which continues to pose growing threats to digital systems globally. Facilitators guided attendees through practical exercises and technical discussions aimed at equipping Eswatini’s digital ecosystem with stronger cybersecurity safeguards.
The workshop highlighted the country’s increasing commitment to building a secure and resilient digital economy as more sectors continue to embrace online services and digital transactions. Financial institutions, telecom operators and government agencies all rely heavily on secure internet infrastructure, making DNS protection a key priority in preventing cyberattacks and service disruptions.
Officials noted that the knowledge and information gathered during the workshop would also contribute to broader research efforts focused on strengthening cybersecurity systems within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. The collaborative approach is expected to support regional capacity development and encourage stronger partnerships between institutions working to improve cyber resilience.
Participants described the workshop as both timely and practical, particularly as cyber threats continue to evolve across the globe. Many welcomed the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts and colleagues from different sectors while sharpening their technical expertise in DNS operations and cybersecurity management.
The event concluded with participants receiving certificates in recognition of their active participation and commitment to advancing cybersecurity knowledge in Eswatini. The certification ceremony marked the culmination of a week dedicated to strengthening technical skills, fostering collaboration and preparing the country for a safer digital future.
