MANZINI — The Eswatini National Beach Volleyball Team has officially departed the country to compete in the Beach Volleyball African Nations Championship Qualifiers set to take place in Maputo, Mozambique, marking an important step in the country’s growing presence in international volleyball.
The team will represent Eswatini in the highly competitive Zone VI tournament, where they are expected to face some of the strongest teams in the region. The national squad consists of two men’s teams and one women’s team, reflecting a balanced effort to showcase talent across both categories.
Athletes carrying the national flag include Mlamuli Simelane, Sanele Mndzebele, Mhlanganisi Magongo, Nkosingiphile Dube, Siphelelisiwe Nsibandze, and Hlobisile Ndlovu. The players are expected to demonstrate skill, resilience, and teamwork as they compete on the continental stage.
Guiding the team is Coach Dennis Lukhele, who will be responsible for technical preparation and match strategy throughout the competition. Supporting the delegation is Phinda Dlamini, Vice President of the Eswatini National Volleyball Association, who will serve as the Head of Delegation.
The team’s participation has been made possible through the support of the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council, which funded the travel arrangements. This backing highlights ongoing efforts to promote sport development and provide international exposure for local athletes.
The qualifiers present a valuable opportunity for the athletes to gain experience, improve their rankings, and potentially secure a place in the main African Nations Championship. It also serves as a platform to elevate Eswatini’s status in beach volleyball within the Zone VI region.
As the team embarks on this journey, emaSwati are encouraged to rally behind the players as they carry the nation’s hopes and pride on the sand courts of Mozambique.
