MBABANE– Eswatini’s young hockey stars have arrived safely in Harare, Zimbabwe, ahead of the Zimbabwe Youth Hockey Series, where they will represent the Kingdom on the regional stage.
The Eswatini Hockey Youth Team arrived in the Zimbabwean capital as the U14 and U18 boys’ and girls’ national teams prepare to compete against regional opposition.
The tournament presents an important opportunity for Eswatini’s emerging hockey talent to gain international exposure, test themselves against other young players and showcase their abilities beyond the country’s borders.
The Eswatini Hockey Association had earlier launched a nationwide appeal for financial and logistical support to help make the trip possible under the campaign message “Our Youth, Our Pride.”
The association called on individuals, companies and organisations to assist through cash donations or raffle-prize sponsorships, citing the significant costs associated with transport, accommodation and other expenses for the tour.
According to the association, the selected teams had been training hard in preparation for the tournament and were eager to fly the national flag high.
The Zimbabwe tour is also expected to contribute to the development of the young players by exposing them to different playing styles while giving them valuable experience that could benefit their future participation in international competitions.
With the team now safely in Zimbabwe, attention turns to the tournament as the young players prepare to compete against regional counterparts.
The Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC), in a Facebook update confirming the team’s safe arrival, wished the players and delegation well as they begin their tournament journey.
The council encouraged the young athletes to play with pride, passion and determination as they represent Eswatini on the international stage.
The Zimbabwe Youth Hockey Series is scheduled to run from August 13 to 16, 2026, according to the earlier appeal by the Eswatini Hockey Association.
For the young players, the tournament represents more than competition. It is an opportunity to gain experience, build confidence and contribute to the continued growth of hockey in Eswatini.
