MANZINI– More than 200 patients at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital were reminded that they are not alone after the Taiwan Tzu Chi Foundation brought comfort, compassion and hope to the hospital through a donation of handmade Cushions of Love.
The foundation made the donation on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, handing over more than 200 handmade cushions alongside handmade Vicks Vaporub and Vaseline, in an initiative that placed compassion at the heart of patient care.
The donation is part of a longstanding partnership between the Taiwan Tzu Chi Foundation and RFM Hospital, a relationship that has grown over the years into a shared commitment to improving the wellbeing and experience of patients.
While the cushions may appear simple, each carries a deeper message of dignity, love and hope. The items were created by volunteers using donated textile materials, transforming what could have been discarded materials into meaningful gifts for people receiving treatment.
The volunteers also gave their time, skills and effort to prepare the handmade items, making the initiative a personal expression of solidarity with patients.
For those in hospital, where days can often be marked by uncertainty, discomfort and anxiety, the gifts offer more than physical support. They provide a tangible reminder that members of the wider community care about their wellbeing.
