MBABANE – The air in Ngwempisi has been thick with expectation. Many believed that by tomorrow, incarcerated Former Member of Parliament Mthandeni Dube would finally taste freedom. Yet, Eswatini Positive News can confirm that his release date remains officially unannounced.

Dube is among the inmates set to benefit from His Majesty King Mswati III’s Mercy, a gesture of compassion that continues to bring hope to many families. But before he steps out of custody, one last step remains: the submission of his social enquiry report.

The Report That Holds the Key

According to insiders, the report, expected by 3 October 2025, is no mere formality. It carries weighty details, including:

  • Ensuring Dube’s security and safety after release,
  • Outlining the community service programme he will undertake, and
  • Establishing the reporting framework to his Umphakatsi.

Once this process is completed, the His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) will make an official announcement of his release date.

HMCS Clarifies the Process

When contacted, HMCS Deputy PRO, Assistant Chief Officer Baphelele Kunene, explained that his office is only mandated to share information concerning inmates already released or those whose sentences have been reduced.

“At present, I am not aware of any specific date or time for the release of any other inmate beyond the aforementioned,” he said.

A Nation Awaits with Hope

While speculation swirls, one fact is clear: Dube is on the list of beneficiaries of the King’s Mercy. His return home will symbolize not only a new chapter for him, but also the King’s enduring commitment to forgiveness, compassion, and the restoration of hope.

Until the official word is given, the nation waits, hopeful, patient, and confident that when the time comes, the announcement will mark a moment of renewal and reconciliation.
