MBABANE — The spirit of celebration swept through Ezulwini as participants and community members converged at Corner Plaza during a vibrant roadshow marking the 40-year reign of Mswati III.
Led by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with Ezulwini Municipality, the procession moved from Ezulwini Police Post to Corner Plaza, drawing a diverse mix of residents, stakeholders and performers in a colourful display of unity, patriotism and national pride.
From early morning, groups gathered along the route, some dressed in traditional attire while others waved national symbols, creating a lively and inclusive atmosphere. The roadshow forms part of a broader national programme recognising four decades of leadership under the King, with similar activities expected in different regions.
The atmosphere was energised by drum majorettes from St. Mary’s High School in Lobamba, whose synchronised routines drew cheers from onlookers. Cultural performances by Ngcoseni Central High School added depth and heritage to the celebrations, while MC Sandile Dlamini kept the crowd engaged with humour and vibrant commentary.
Further boosting the celebratory mood was the Eswatini Correctional Services band, whose musical performances сопровождed the procession, alongside disciplined formations from students of Matsapha Police Academy. Their presence highlighted the participation of national institutions in honouring the milestone.
Local vendors and small businesses capitalised on the increased foot traffic, setting up stalls around the plaza to sell food, beverages and merchandise. The bustling marketplace not only enhanced the festive environment but also provided economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and informal traders.
Organisers said the roadshow goes beyond celebration, serving as a platform to strengthen social cohesion and encourage community participation. They noted that such gatherings foster unity and reinforce shared values among citizens.
As the procession reached Corner Plaza, the sense of unity remained evident, with participants continuing to sing, dance and celebrate. With every step, song and performance, Ezulwini added its voice to the national celebration, reflecting pride, resilience and collective identity.
More events are expected to continue across the country as part of the broader programme commemorating the landmark anniversary.
