MPOLONJENI – Rapid action by police officers and tenants on May 14, 2026, helped prevent further harm when they intervened during an alleged attack on two women in a rented flat in Mpolonjeni. A 25-year-old man is reported to have been involved in the incident, which is linked to a domestic dispute, before he was arrested by police at the scene shortly after the situation was brought under control.

The suspect, who is an ex-boyfriend of one of the victims, is alleged to have gone to the residence after learning that his former partner’s new boyfriend had visited her. He reportedly forced his way into the home, locked the door, and assaulted the two women who were inside at the time.

According to information sourced from the Royal Eswatini Police Services facebook page, the incident is linked to the end of a relationship several months earlier. The suspect is alleged to have struggled to accept the breakup and had previously expressed anger over the victim moving on with a new partner.

Police say the suspect first issued threats before attacking his ex-girlfriend and then turning on her friend, who was also present in the house. Both women sustained injuries during the incident and were later assisted after neighbours intervened.

The situation was brought under control after tenants in the building heard commotion coming from the flat and quickly responded. Their intervention helped rescue the victims and ensured that authorities were alerted without delay. Police officers arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect at the scene.

Authorities have commended the quick response from members of the public, noting that timely intervention played a crucial role in preventing the situation from escalating further and ensuring the suspect was taken into custody.

It is further alleged that the suspect had previously been involved in a similar incident involving the same victim in March, though it was not formally reported at the time.

The suspect is expected to appear in court today as investigations continue. Law enforcement has encouraged members of the public to report domestic-related violence early and seek help through available support channels.
