FROM CAMPUS DREAMS TO R&B STAGES, A JOURNEY OF GROWTH

MANZINI– What began as a love for music and singing during her university years has grown into a developing career shaped by patience, perseverance and a desire to connect with listeners through R&B.

Mandisa Mamba says university was a turning point in how she viewed her relationship with music. Although she had always enjoyed singing, it was during that period that she began to recognise music as something she could pursue professionally.

As her journey has progressed, Mamba says her sound has evolved alongside her as a person. While R&B remains central to her artistry, she has become increasingly willing to explore different sounds without losing the emotion and storytelling that define her music.

“I’ve become much more comfortable with who I am as an artist and what I want to say through my music,” she said. But the journey has not been without its quieter moments. Mamba says one of her biggest lessons has been learning patience, particularly during periods when opportunities appear to slow down.

The music industry, she notes, can create pressure for artists to achieve success quickly, yet building a meaningful career often requires continuing to create even when results are not immediate. For Mamba, the motivation comes from her genuine love for music and a willingness to keep developing.

Her performances at different stages, including the Luju Festival, have also strengthened her desire to perform more. She describes live performance as one of the most rewarding parts of being an artist because it allows her to experience her music directly with her audience.

Looking ahead, Mamba wants her music to remain rooted in connection. She hopes listeners can hear her songs and recognise pieces of their own stories and emotions in them.

With more music and performances on the horizon, Mamba views the next chapter not simply as a pursuit of success, but as an opportunity to continue growing into the artist she wants to become.
