SHISELWENI 2– What began as an ordinary day ended with tears of joy, laughter and renewed hope as four vulnerable families in Shiselweni walked into homes they never imagined they would one day own.
The emotional housing handover, led by Deputy Prime Minister Her Excellency Thulisile Dladla, transformed the lives of an elderly grandmother, a child-headed family and two other vulnerable households through a partnership involving the Government of Eswatini, NDRMA and the Republic of China (Taiwan).
One of the day’s most touching moments came when 81-year-old Emelina Shabangu received the keys to her new home. Despite losing her eyesight, she continues to care for three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Overcome with gratitude, she thanked everyone who made her dream of a decent home a reality.
Another emotional moment unfolded in Madulini, where Siphosethu Motsa struggled to hold back tears after her child-headed family received a new house. She thanked the Deputy Prime Minister for giving her and her seven siblings a safe place to live, describing the home as a gift that had changed their future.
At Makwelelwa, beneficiary Petros Fanyana Ndzima expressed heartfelt appreciation to His Majesty King Mswati III after receiving his house, while Jabulile Masondo said rain had once been her greatest fear because it exposed her family’s difficult living conditions. Today, she said, she finally feels equal to everyone else.
Throughout the programme, local leaders praised His Majesty King Mswati III for placing the welfare of emaSwati at the centre of national development and commended Deputy Prime Minister Dladla for leading programmes that support older persons, children, people living with disabilities and disaster affected families.
As the final ribbon was cut, the smiles on beneficiaries’ faces reflected more than the completion of four houses. They symbolised renewed dignity, restored hope and the promise of a brighter tomorrow for families whose lives have been transformed.
