MANZINI – The magic of spoken word poetry will take center stage at the Manzini Arts Centre this Saturday, July 26, 2025, with a transformative afternoon workshop titled ‘From Pen to Performance’, running from 2 PM to 5 PM.

This free-entry event promises to be an unforgettable experience for poetry lovers, creative minds, and aspiring performers. The workshop is designed to nurture emerging talents while elevating the craft of seasoned wordsmiths through a vibrant exploration of poetic expression and performance.

Attendees will be treated to an enriching session led by acclaimed Eswatini poets, including the legendary Qibho Intalektual, Beezae, Majaha Nkonyane, M Age Lepoet, and Last Man. Each guest poet brings a unique voice and perspective, ensuring a diverse and dynamic program for all in attendance.

A Space for Voice, Vulnerability, and Victory

In an interview, Cebolenkhosi Mahlalela, Vice Chairperson of the Manzini Poetry Association, emphasized the mission behind the initiative.

“The goal is to empower aspiring poets to express themselves authentically through spoken word,” Mahlalela said. “Poetry has the power to spark conversation, heal wounds, and transform communities. We want to provide a space where voices are heard, valued, and celebrated.”

More than just a creative outlet, the workshop aims to build confidence, improve performance skills, and offer participants constructive feedback in a nurturing environment.

Learning from the Masters

Workshop activities will include interactive exercises, live performances, and peer-led critique sessions, all guided by experienced poets and performance coaches. From tips on stage presence to the rhythm of delivery and lyrical storytelling, the event offers practical tools to elevate poetic performance from the page to the stage.

“Poetry is more than words—it’s an emotional performance,” said Mahlalela. “This workshop helps poets break through the page and connect directly with their audience.”

Empowering Local Talent

By bringing spoken word to the forefront, the ‘From Pen to Performance’ workshop aligns with a growing movement to celebrate Eswatini’s creative industries and provide artists with platforms for growth and visibility. It’s also a call to the community to gather, connect, and support local voices.

“Whether you’re new to poetry or already performing on stages, there’s something for everyone,” Mahlalela added. “We encourage all who love words and expression to come be part of this creative energy.”
