KWALUSENI– As investment scams continue to threaten people seeking to grow their money, the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) has urged emaSwati to exercise caution and establish the legitimacy of investment opportunities before committing their funds.

The call was made on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during the FSRA Capital Market Roundtable Indaba held at the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) Faculty of Commerce at Kwaluseni.

The indaba formed part of the 10th edition of World Investor Week 2026, held under the theme “Invest in Your Future. Protect It Today.” It brought together university leadership, financial sector stakeholders and fourth-year BCom and Bachelor of Education business studies students to strengthen financial literacy and promote responsible investment.

Representing the FSRA Chief Executive Officer, General Manager of Market Conduct Zama Dlamini urged prospective investors to conduct proper due diligence before putting their money into financial opportunities.

Dlamini emphasised the importance of “verifying before investing”, saying investors should take time to establish whether an opportunity is legitimate before committing their funds.

The warning comes as young people are increasingly exposed to different investment opportunities, making financial literacy and investor protection important tools in safeguarding personal wealth.

UNESWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Justice M. Thwala urged Commerce students to make full use of engagements with financial sector professionals to strengthen their understanding of investment and build sustainable financial futures.

He highlighted the importance of developing financial awareness early, encouraging students to use opportunities such as the indaba to gain practical knowledge that can guide their financial decisions beyond university.

Dr. Julius Warren Kule, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce, said the engagement was designed to connect academic learning with practical opportunities in the financial sector.

He said capital markets play an important role in the country’s development, describing them as “the engines driving economic expansion, jobs, and national growth.”

Dr. Kule also encouraged students to embrace saving, investing and wealth creation rather than focusing solely on immediate consumption.

The roundtable exposed students to the country’s capital markets, including investment opportunities available through the Eswatini Stock Exchange.

Representatives from the Eswatini Stock Exchange, StanLib Eswatini, ENACTUS and AlphSZ Eswatini also participated, giving students an opportunity to interact with professionals from different areas of the financial and business ecosystem.

The engagement formed part of broader efforts to equip young people with the knowledge needed to make informed financial decisions and participate responsibly in the economy.

For the FSRA, the message was that building wealth should be accompanied by protecting it. Investors were encouraged to look beyond promises of attractive returns and establish the credibility of an opportunity before making a financial commitment.

The indaba therefore gave young emaSwati an opportunity to understand both the opportunities available in capital markets and the risks that can accompany uninformed investment decisions.

With financial literacy at the heart of World Investor Week, the engagement sought to inspire a generation of informed young investors who can contribute to wealth creation and economic growth in Eswatini.
