GEGE– Joy swept through Gege Inkhundla as three new homes were officially opened, with Member of Parliament Hon Magesi Dlamini describing the occasion as a historic moment for the community.
Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla officially opened the three houses, bringing Gege into the growing number of Tinkhundla benefiting from government interventions aimed at providing vulnerable families with safe and dignified homes.
Dlamini said the joy of the community was difficult to contain, explaining that residents had watched similar house handovers taking place across other Tinkhundla on television and had long hoped Gege would experience the same.
“The joy is unfiltered for us as Gege Inkhundla. We have been watching this on television, where people from other different Tinkhundla have been handed over houses. Our joy is beyond limits,” he said.
The MP revealed that he had repeatedly raised the issue of housing in Parliament, admitting that he had given the Deputy Prime Minister “a very hard time” over the matter.
However, he expressed gratitude that Gege had finally joined other communities benefiting from the initiative.
“I have been giving the Deputy Prime Minister a very hard time in Parliament with these houses, but I am very grateful that finally Gege Inkhundla now is amongst the other Tinkhundla which have been receiving such beauty,” Dlamini said.
He further thanked Dladla for understanding the needs of the community and recognised what he described as the spirit of love demonstrated through the intervention.
“Thank you for knowing the meaning of Nkwe, Hon Deputy Prime Minister. Thank you for the Agape love that the King is shouting off,” he said.
For Dlamini, the opening of the three homes was more than a government handover. It represented progress for Gege and a moment residents could proudly call their own.
“Today we finally opened three houses for Gege. Today history has been made for us as well,” he said.
The three homes now stand as a symbol of hope for the beneficiaries and the wider Gege community, showing how housing interventions can transform lives while restoring dignity and strengthening confidence in community development.
The occasion also reflected the growing partnership between government, communities and traditional structures in responding to the needs of vulnerable families.
For Gege, the long-awaited moment has arrived and three families now have a safer place to call home.
