…His Majesty praises youth talent, EU partnership support, and calls for stronger collective responsibility among ACP member states

EZULWINI– His Majesty King Mswati III has called for deeper unity, cooperation and shared responsibility among nations, saying “togetherness is the answer” in addressing global challenges facing Africa, the Caribbean, the Pacific and Europe.
The King made the remarks while addressing delegates attending the first Africa–EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly at the Palazzo International Convention Centre (ICC) in Ezulwini.
‘Togetherness is the answer’
His Majesty emphasised that international cooperation must go beyond formal engagements and translate into genuine solidarity among nations.
“Let us support each other where we can as brothers and sisters. Let us share ideas and spirit together,” King Mswati III said.
“Our coming together is really to understand each other, regardless of where we come from. We may be from Europe, the Pacific, the Caribbean or Africa, but at the end of the day, we are all together. Togetherness is the answer.”
He said the purpose of the gathering was to strengthen mutual understanding and build lasting partnerships across regions.
Praise for youth talent and sporting spirit
The King also highlighted the energy, discipline and talent of young people, referencing sporting and cultural exchanges that demonstrate unity and capability among nations.
“I can see the capability and talent of the young people, their enthusiasm and energy,” he said.
He added that he was impressed by the determination shown in sporting activities.
“I was hearing those sitting next to me admiring how hard it was for people hitting on the ground, and they were wondering whether they could do the same thing. That is the strength of the young people – they can hit hard and keep going.”
Appreciation of EU–ACP partnership and institutional support
His Majesty expressed gratitude for the continued support from the European Union and ACP member states, particularly in strengthening institutional structures and cooperation.
“We are grateful that the EU supports our headquarters, which is based in Belgium,” he said.
He noted that administrative challenges had previously affected the management of shared institutions, but member states had since taken responsibility to strengthen them.
“As member states, we realised that we must take responsibility for our own headquarters. This is our responsibility as ACP member states,” the King said.
He added that collective action had led to improved support, including financial contributions.
“Together, we were able to raise at least 14 million euros,” he said.
Call for shared responsibility and contribution
His Majesty encouraged member states to actively contribute to sustaining joint institutions rather than relying solely on external support.
“It is our responsibility to really look after our headquarters,” he said.
He thanked the European Union for its continued support while emphasising the importance of balanced partnership.
“We want to say thank you to the EU for that support, but also recognise that we must all contribute,” the King said.
Hosting the historic conference
King Mswati III expressed pride in hosting the international parliamentary gathering in Eswatini, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation among global partners.
“We are so pleased as Eswatini to host this very important conference,” he said.
He encouraged delegates to experience the Kingdom’s hospitality and culture during their stay.
“When you go back to your respective countries, you will take with you many happy memories of your stay,” he said.

His Majesty concluded by wishing delegates fruitful deliberations, urging them to build on the spirit of unity and cooperation that defines the Africa–EU–ACP partnership.
