MATSAPHA- His Majesty’s Correctional Services, Commissioner General LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, has urged Lutsango members within the correctional service to practise financial discipline in order to strengthen professionalism and integrity among officers.
The Commissioner General made the remarks during a Gender Network workshop held at the Matsapha Staff College on March 4, 2025, which brought together female correctional officers to discuss issues affecting their wellbeing and professional conduct.
The workshop, held under the theme “Silutsango Lwase Correctional, Siyabiya ngelwati – Sihlelekile,” aimed to empower officers with knowledge on responsible leadership, sound decision-making and personal development while working in a male-dominated environment.
The session was attended by HMCS Commissioners Cyril Maseko and Phindile Sibandze, as well as Regional Commissioners Zodwa Maseko and Gab’sile Manyatsi, among other senior officers.
Representatives from the Public Service HIV/AIDS Coordinating Committee (PSHACC), Faith Sithole and Majaha Masina, facilitated a session on financial wellness, emphasising that proper financial management reduces stress and improves job performance.
They also encouraged officers to normalise and manage their debts responsibly, noting that financial stability reduces vulnerability to corruption and exploitation in the workplace.
The workshop further addressed mental, physical and emotional wellbeing, with discussions focusing on gender roles, power dynamics, substance abuse and responsible decision-making.
Gcinaphi Dlamini from the Ministry of Public Service highlighted the importance of modern parenting approaches, saying the knowledge would help officers strengthen relationships with their children and also better relate with inmates.
Meanwhile, correctional officers Mfundo Dlamini and Luvuyo Dlamini shared insights on gangsterism, equipping participants with strategies to address gang-related challenges and maintain order within correctional facilities.
The programme also featured a musical performance by HMCS choir soloist Buhle Kunene.
The Commissioner General of His Majesty’s Correctional Services, LaMakhosini Phindile Dlamini, further encouraged officers to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop to strengthen professionalism and discipline within the correctional service.
