MBABANE– The Ministry of Justice has taken a significant step toward strengthening disability rights by hosting a two-day workshop aimed at promoting access to justice for persons with visual impairments.
The initiative, coordinated through the Ministry’s National Mechanism for Reporting and Follow-Up, is being implemented in partnership with the The Deputy Prime Minister’s Office Eswatini (Disability Unit) and in collaboration with the Eswatini Association for the Visually Impaired Persons.
The workshop focuses on enhancing awareness of key human rights instruments, particularly the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the African Disability Protocol. These frameworks guide Eswatini’s efforts to ensure that persons with disabilities are protected under the law and are able to access justice on an equal basis with others.
Discussions during the workshop centre on equality before the law, reasonable accommodation, access to justice services, and the role of persons with disabilities in monitoring the State’s compliance with its human rights obligations.
Organisers said the programme is designed to empower participants with knowledge about their constitutional rights while strengthening collaboration between government institutions and disability advocacy groups.
The initiative reflects Government’s broader commitment to building an inclusive society where no one is left behind. By equipping persons with visual impairments with information and practical tools to assert their rights, the Ministry continues to advance efforts toward equal access to justice for all emaSwati.
