MBABANE – Students at Ka-Boyce recently took part in an interhouse athletics competition aimed at identifying talented athletes who will represent the school in upcoming inter-school competitions.
The event brought together learners from different houses who competed in a variety of athletic activities. According to one of the organisers Kenneth Dlamini the purpose of the interhouse competition is to select the best performers who will go on to represent the school against other institutions such as Mbekelweni High School, St Marks High School and Evelyn Baring High School.
The selected athletes will later compete with other schools at the Mavuso Sports Centre, although the exact date for the competition has not yet been announced.
Dlamini said the competition plays an important role in motivating students and encouraging participation in sports. They explained that while some learners excel academically, others have strong abilities in sports, and the interhouse competition allows them to showcase their talents.
“It motivates the students because some are capable in books while others are capable in sports,” Kenneth said, adding that the event gives learners something to be proud of among their peers.
The competition also serves as preparation for the athletes who will represent the school at a higher level. Despite the competitive nature of the event, organisers believe the students are showing promising signs of readiness.
They expressed confidence that the athletes are fit and prepared to compete against other schools. While winning first place would be ideal, organisers emphasised that participation and effort remain the main priorities.
However, there is optimism that the selected participants will perform well and potentially bring home gold medals when they compete at the regional level.
The interhouse competition continues to be an important platform for nurturing young sporting talent and building confidence among students as they prepare to represent their school on a bigger stage.
