SIPHOFANENI– Smiles, excitement and a renewed sense of hope filled Manyovu High School this week as a long-awaited water installation project worth E620 000 was officially launched, bringing relief to a community that has struggled with water challenges for years.
The project, launched by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development through the Microprojects Programme in partnership with Engineers in Action (EIA), is expected to transform daily life for learners, teachers and surrounding households by improving access to clean and reliable water.
Speaking during the launch, Siphofaneni Member of Parliament Honourable Nomalungelo Simelane praised His Majesty King Mswati III for strengthening international partnerships that continue to deliver meaningful development to emaSwati communities.
She said the Kingdom’s cooperation with international organisations was changing lives, especially in rural communities where access to basic services remained a challenge.
“When communities receive projects like this, it restores hope and dignity to the people,” said Simelane.
For Manyovu High School, the project represents more than the installation of pipes and water tanks. It signals the beginning of improved sanitation, better hygiene and a healthier learning environment for learners and teachers.
The initiative is also expected to improve access to safe water within the surrounding community while strengthening agricultural learning opportunities at the school.
Implementation of the project is expected to run from June 2 to July 31, 2026.
The community has also committed itself to the success of the initiative through a 10 percent contribution made up of labour and financial support, reflecting strong community ownership and cooperation.
As part of the programme, Engineers in Action will also bring American student volunteers who are expected to work alongside community members and stakeholders during the implementation phase.
Simelane expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, the Microprojects Programme, Engineers in Action, the leadership of Manyovu High School and residents for working together to make the project a reality.
She acknowledged that many communities across the country continued to submit requests for similar development projects, making it particularly meaningful that Manyovu’s request had been approved.
Bucopho Ebony Dlamini also welcomed the initiative, describing water as a basic necessity that had the power to improve lives and support education.
He encouraged residents to fully support the project and work closely with those implementing it to ensure it continued benefiting future generations.
For the people of Manyovu, the launch was not only about water infrastructure it was about hope finally reaching the community.
