EZULWINI – Senator Savannah Maziya, the Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, has urged young people to focus on financial discipline, leadership and long-term wealth creation, saying the biggest lesson about money is learning how to make it, grow it and keep it.
Senator Savannah Maziya was speaking during the official launch of FinGuard Magazine at Sibane Hotel on May 8, 2026.
The publication, founded by Lungile Tsabedze, Founder and Managing Director of FinGuard Magazine, aims to promote financial literacy, entrepreneurship, investment strategies, debt management and wealth creation in Eswatini.
“The big issue about money is to learn how to make it, grow it and keep it,” said Minister.
Sen. Savannah Maziya warned that spending an entire salary without saving was “a highway to trouble” and urged citizens to prepare financially for the future and retirement as they are 20 more years to live after retirement.
She noted that it is easier to make money than to grow and preserve it, stressing that many people fail financially because they spend beyond their means trying to impress others and seeking validation through material possessions.
The Minister said Africans need to stop worrying about what the next person thinks, adding that some people get into unnecessary debt simply to prove they can afford certain lifestyles.
She encouraged communities to support one another economically, saying successful communities uplift their own businesses and entrepreneurs.
Using an example, Senator Savannah Maziya said some people refuse to support businesses owned by people they know because they fear they may become more successful than them, while other communities intentionally support one another because they believe everyone deserves to succeed.
The Minister further stated that many people have an unhealthy relationship with money because they believe wealth will give them identity and validation.
“The starting point is who you are before the money comes in,” she said.
Minister Senator Savannah Maziya also encouraged young people to surround themselves with disciplined and financially responsible individuals, saying some men make money but lose it through unhealthy relationships, while some women earn good incomes but lose it through excessive lifestyles and unnecessary spending.
She said everything in life must happen at the right time and urged citizens to build wealth not only for themselves, but for future generations.
Drawing from over 30 years of business experience, Minister Senator Savannah Maziya motivated Tsabedze to continue growing the publication, describing financial education as critical in empowering emaSwati and strengthening the country’s economy.
Meanwhile, Lungile Tsabedze, Founder and Managing Director of FinGuard Magazine, described financial literacy as freedom, saying the publication was created to bridge financial knowledge gaps in Eswatini and teach both young and old people how to make money, invest wisely and build sustainable wealth.
He said the magazine would serve as a bridge connecting citizens with practical financial knowledge and investment opportunities.
Tsabedze further announced that FinGuard Magazine will be available in stores from next week and revealed that the publication will also create employment opportunities as it plans to recruit journalists.
The Principal Secretary from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade represented the Honourable Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade during the launch.
The launch of FinGuard Magazine marked an important step towards strengthening financial literacy and entrepreneurship in Eswatini.
