PIGG’S PEAK – Men have been urged to take greater responsibility for their families, pursue education and income-generating opportunities and speak openly about challenges affecting their homes as the Lisango Movement continues its campaign to promote stronger families and address gender-based violence (GBV).
The call was made during the movement’s monthly meeting held at Gobolondlo Hall in Pigg’s Peak on Saturday, 3 October 2026, where members discussed GBV, family responsibilities, men’s wellbeing and economic empowerment.
Lisango Movement founder Muzi Nxumalo said the discussions were aimed at encouraging men to understand their responsibilities and work towards creating stable and happy homes.
“A happy man means a happy home. Men should learn and be educated so that they can sustain their families,” said Nxumalo.
Nxumalo emphasised the importance of empowering men with knowledge and skills, particularly in an environment where financial challenges can place pressure on families.
The meeting also provided a platform for men to discuss GBV and other issues affecting families, with participants encouraged to address challenges through communication, responsibility and seeking appropriate support rather than violence.
The movement maintains that men’s wellbeing is an important component of building healthy families and communities. Creating safe spaces where men can discuss personal, financial and family challenges can encourage them to seek solutions and become more supportive partners and fathers.
The focus on GBV also placed responsibility on men to reject violence and contribute towards safer homes. Discussions around men’s empowerment were therefore linked to the broader need for respectful relationships and responsible family leadership.
Nxumalo has previously described Lisango Movement as a platform for men to engage on issues affecting their lives, including GBV, mental health and family challenges.
The monthly meetings form part of the movement’s ongoing community engagement in Pigg’s Peak, with the organisation seeking to encourage men to become economically active, responsible and positive contributors to their families and communities.
The 3 October meeting therefore combined conversations on men’s empowerment, family stability and GBV prevention, reinforcing the movement’s message that stronger men and healthier relationships can contribute to stronger homes.
