MBABANE– The National Children’s Services Unit, operating under the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office, has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at supporting vulnerable children with essential resources to enhance their education and overall wellbeing.
The programme forms part of a broader back-to-school campaign designed to ease the burden on disadvantaged families while ensuring that no child is left behind due to a lack of basic necessities.
As part of the initiative, learners are receiving full school uniforms, including shoes, jerseys and school bags. In addition, food parcels and dignity packages are being distributed to support both learners and their households. The inclusion of food assistance recognises the link between nutrition and academic performance, while dignity packages aim to ensure that children attend school with confidence and self-esteem.
The initiative has already reached several institutions across the country, including Embosi Primary School, Manzamhlophe High School, Maphiveni Primary School and Ebholi Primary School. More schools are expected to benefit in the coming weeks as the rollout continues to other regions.
Officials from the Unit indicated that the programme seeks not only to address immediate needs but also to contribute to long-term educational outcomes by creating a supportive learning environment for vulnerable children.
The distribution drive has been made possible through the generous support of private sector partners and donors. Key contributors include OK Foods Eswatini, Stefanutti Stocks and UNIFOODS, alongside anonymous benefactors.
Their involvement underscores the importance of collaboration between Government, the private sector and community stakeholders in addressing social challenges. By pooling resources and expertise, partners are helping to create meaningful change in the lives of children who might otherwise struggle to access quality education.
The National Children’s Services Unit reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of children, emphasising that education remains a powerful tool in breaking the cycle of poverty and building a stronger, more inclusive nation.
