MBABANE – Matsanjeni Member of Parliament Sabelo Ndlangamandla has welcomed efforts to strengthen the Office of the Auditor General, describing the institution as a vital guardian of public funds and a key pillar of accountability in the country.

Speaking during parliamentary deliberations on the budget for the Auditor General’s Office, Ndlangamandla noted that the allocation for personal costs had increased from E35 million to E48 million. He said the increment reflects the growing responsibilities of the office and the importance of ensuring it has the resources needed to carry out its work effectively.

The legislator highlighted the crucial role the Auditor General’s Office plays in promoting transparency and responsible management of government finances. According to Ndlangamandla, a well-supported oversight institution strengthens confidence in how public funds are used and contributes to good governance.

He also emphasised the need to protect the independence and autonomy of the office so it can continue performing its duties without interference. Safeguarding the institution, he said, ensures that it remains a trusted watchdog for the nation’s financial management systems.

During his contribution, Ndlangamandla further raised the issue of elderly citizens, encouraging government to review existing financial support structures. He noted that many senior citizens rely on government assistance for their daily livelihoods and that reviewing the support system could help improve their wellbeing.

His remarks formed part of broader parliamentary discussions focused on strengthening governance institutions while ensuring that vulnerable members of society continue to receive the support they need.
