MBABANE — A transformative wave of development is sweeping through Esihulubeni, KaMbhoke following the official launch of a suspended footbridge project aimed at improving connectivity, safety, and daily life for residents.
The initiative, pioneered through the Microprojects Programme Coordinating Unit under the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development, signals a bold step towards inclusive, people-centred development. Implemented in partnership with Engineers in Action and the local community, the project underscores a model where citizens actively participate in shaping their own progress.
According to information sourced from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development Facebook page, the launch event featured a comprehensive site inspection and the introduction of engineers and technical teams tasked with overseeing the construction process over the next 10 weeks. The project is expected to significantly ease movement across previously challenging terrain, especially during adverse weather conditions.
Community members have not only welcomed the development but have also taken ownership of it. Volunteers stepped forward to support construction efforts, reflecting a rare but powerful sense of unity and shared purpose. Their involvement highlights a growing culture of collaboration between government and citizens.

“This project reflects the government’s continued commitment to people-centred development, where communities are active participants in creating sustainable solutions that improve daily life,” officials said.
Beyond its immediate function, the suspended footbridge stands as a powerful symbol of cooperation. It embodies the alignment of national development goals with grassroots action, where every stakeholder contributes to a shared vision of progress. Key discussions during the launch addressed crucial logistical elements, including safety protocols, working hours, equipment allocation, and welfare provisions for workers and volunteers, ensuring that the project proceeds efficiently and responsibly.
As construction gains momentum, anticipation builds within Esihulubeni KaMbhoke. For many residents, the bridge represents more than infrastructure, it is a lifeline, a connector of opportunities, and a testament to what collective effort can achieve.
The Ministry commended the residents for their commitment and willingness to unite in pursuit of a stronger, more connected future. With completion set within weeks, this initiative positions Eswatini firmly on a path where development is not just delivered, but co-created.
