MBABANE – Ngudzeni Member of Parliament (MP) Charles Ndlovu has commended the Government of Eswatini for its ongoing investment in infrastructure, highlighting major road developments that are set to transform lives and unlock economic opportunities within his constituency.

Speaking on recent progress, Ndlovu praised the construction of key road networks, particularly the route linking Hlathikhulu to Nsoko, describing it as a game-changer for both businesses and daily mobility.

“This road will play a vital role in improving transportation and supporting economic activity. Communities will now be able to access essential services such as education and healthcare more easily,” he said.

Improved access to services and safer travel

The legislator noted that previously, roads such as MR10 (Hlathikhulu–Maloma) posed serious challenges, especially during rainy conditions when surfaces became dangerously slippery.

“It was very difficult for motorists to use the road. People struggled to reach schools, clinics and workplaces,” Ndlovu explained.

He expressed optimism about the ongoing construction works by Stefanutti Stocks, indicating that significant progress is expected by June this year.

Expanding road network across key routes

Ndlovu also highlighted developments on several other strategic routes, including MR25 (Hlathikhulu–Sithobela), currently being constructed by Inyatsi Construction.

In addition, he pointed to the importance of MR14 (Siphofaneni–Nsoko) and MR21 (Maloma–Siphambanweni), which form part of a broader infrastructure programme aimed at strengthening connectivity between regions.

“These roads will open up opportunities for investment. We expect to see businesses, including filling stations and other enterprises, being established along these routes,” he said.

Large-scale project under ERIIP Phase I

The road developments form part of the Eswatini Road Infrastructure Improvement Programme Phase I (ERIIP Phase I), a flagship initiative designed to enhance regional connectivity and improve mobility across both rural and urban areas.

The project includes an extensive 105.9-kilometre stretch covering the Siphofaneni–Sithobela–Maloma–Nsoko (MR14) and Maloma–Siphambanweni (MR21) corridors.

During a recent site inspection held on Friday, prospective contractors were taken on a guided tour of the planned routes, with stops at key points to assess terrain conditions and project requirements.

Once completed, the roads will be upgraded to paved standards, significantly reducing travel times and improving safety for motorists and pedestrians alike. The construction phase is expected to take approximately 36 months.

Widespread benefits for communities

The project is set to benefit multiple constituencies, including Siphofaneni, Sithobela, Ngudzeni, Sigwe, Lubulini and Matsanjeni South.

Improved road infrastructure is expected to stimulate local economies by enhancing access to markets, facilitating trade and encouraging investment. Communities will also enjoy improved access to essential services and opportunities for development.

Complementary rural development initiatives

Ndlovu further expressed appreciation for the work of Microprojects Programme, which continues to support infrastructure development at grassroots level.

He noted that Microprojects has played a key role in constructing classrooms, community halls, low-level bridges and other essential facilities in both rural and urban areas.

“This work has brought much-needed relief to our communities and improved living conditions for many emaSwati,” he said.

Driving national development forward

The Siphofaneni–Siphambanweni corridor is widely regarded as a strategic link for domestic and regional trade, with its completion expected to contribute significantly to Eswatini’s broader development goals.

With multiple road projects progressing simultaneously, Ndlovu said the future looks promising for communities in his constituency and beyond.

“These developments show government’s commitment to improving the lives of emaSwati and building a stronger, more connected nation,” he said.
