MBABANE – Businesses and residents in Siphofaneni can now access banking services at any time of day following the opening of Standard Bank Eswatini’s sixth Digital Branch, a move aimed at improving safety, convenience and financial access for a fast-growing community.
The new branch, officially launched by Standard Bank representatives, operates 24 hours a day and allows customers to carry out key transactions without travelling to other towns or relying on traditional banking hours. The facility forms part of the bank’s ongoing effort to bring modern banking solutions closer to communities while addressing challenges linked to distance, cash handling and security.
Standard Bank Head of Client Coverage Celumusa Phakathi said the decision to establish a digital branch in Siphofaneni was driven by customer needs, particularly in areas experiencing economic growth and increased commercial activity.
He explained that the branch provides a secure alternative for businesses that trade late, allowing them to deposit cash safely rather than storing large sums overnight or transporting money over long distances.
Local business stakeholders have welcomed the development, describing it as a practical response to the risks associated with cash-based transactions. Bonginkhosi Mdluli, speaking on behalf of MA Complex, said the digital branch will help both individuals and businesses transition toward safer and more efficient ways of managing money.
He noted that reducing reliance on physical cash lowers exposure to theft and robbery while also helping people develop better financial habits through digital platforms.
Law enforcement authorities have also expressed support for the initiative. Deputy Station Commander Muzi Magagula of the Siphofaneni Police said the availability of secure, round-the-clock banking services is expected to reduce cash-related crime in the area.
Magagula added that the police will work with Standard Bank to ensure the safety of the facility, emphasising that cooperation between financial institutions and law enforcement contributes to a more secure business environment.
Beyond security benefits, Standard Bank indicated that the digital branch will also support efforts to improve financial literacy by encouraging customers to fully utilise digital banking tools for money management.
The Siphofaneni Digital Branch joins others located in Mbabane, Manzini Hub, Gables, Siteki and Buhleni, reinforcing Standard Bank’s broader digital transformation strategy and its commitment to making banking services more accessible across Eswatini.
