MANZINI– When Swati artists take the stage beyond Eswatini’s borders, they carry more than their music with them. Their performances also bring stories, sounds and cultural expressions shaped at home.
That will be part of the picture at the second annual Kusile Kwetfu Cultural Celebration, where several Eswatini performers are among the artists featured on the programme at Ndalo Lodge in Mbombela on October 3.
Among the Eswatini artists featured are Sancheziey, Cy Ndukwemnyama, Bholoja, Lodanda and Ngcayi Nemaphimbo Endzabuko performers whose music is rooted in culture and heritage. Their presence brings a distinctly Swati dimension to the celebration, with their different musical expressions sharing a common connection to the country’s cultural identity.
Their inclusion places Swati music and cultural expression within a programme that also features performers from South Africa. For the Eswatini artists, the event offers a platform to present their work to an audience across the border, while contributing to a celebration built around cultural expression.
The artists bring different approaches to that expression. Bholoja is known for his African folk sound, while Sancheziey incorporates traditional Swati elements into his music. The presence of Ngcayi Nemaphimbo Endzabuko also points to the place of traditional musical expression within the line-up.
The celebration, organised by Vunula Uhlobo Cultural, is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, from 10am until late. Other names on the poster include Perddy N, Lethumusa Simelane, Imbongimate, Thabojoy, Soul Ngwane, Poetess Landa Libhubesikati, Make Shelangubo, Nicholen and Xolani Mayekiso.
With artists from both sides of the border sharing the programme, Kusile Kwetfu brings together different creative voices in a setting where music becomes one way of expressing and sharing culture.
