KWALUSENI – As Eswatini continues to invest in healthier communities and stronger healthcare systems, a new collaboration between the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) is set to create fresh opportunities for research, innovation and practical solutions that improve the lives of emaSwati.
The two institutions officially announced their partnership during a joint press briefing held on June 15, 2026, at the Main Conference Hall on the Kwaluseni Campus. The briefing also marked the official launch of the upcoming Community Health Research Conference, which is scheduled to take place on August 13, 2026, at the UNESWA Sports Emporium.
Held under the theme, “Community Health as a Panacea for Universal Health Coverage,” the conference aims to bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, students, development partners and community leaders to discuss innovative ways of improving health outcomes and expanding access to quality healthcare services.
The conference is being co-organised by UNESWA’s Department of Community Health Nursing Science and the Ministry of Health’s Department of Research and Innovation, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening community-centred healthcare approaches across the country.
Organisers described the event as more than an academic gathering, saying it will serve as an important national platform for exchanging ideas, sharing research findings and developing practical solutions to health challenges affecting communities.
Particular attention will be given to both communicable and non-communicable diseases, which continue to place significant pressure on healthcare systems worldwide. Through research-driven discussions and evidence-based recommendations, participants will explore strategies that can help prevent disease, promote healthier lifestyles and improve healthcare delivery at grassroots level.
The conference is also expected to highlight the growing role of innovation in healthcare, including the use of digital technologies to improve access to services, strengthen patient care and support informed decision-making within the health sector.
In another significant development, organisers announced that the call for abstracts is now officially open. Researchers, practitioners and innovators have been invited to submit abstracts focusing on health equity, sustainable healthcare models, digital health innovations and other areas that contribute to universal health coverage.
The call presents an opportunity for local and regional experts to showcase research and initiatives that are making a positive impact in communities while contributing to the broader goal of creating a healthier nation.
Stakeholders from government institutions, non-governmental organisations, academic institutions and community-based organisations have also been encouraged to participate in the conference and contribute to discussions that can shape the future of healthcare in Eswatini.
Registration has been opened at E300 for professionals and E100 for students. The registration package includes conference materials and meals.
The partnership between UNESWA and the Ministry of Health demonstrates the growing importance of collaboration in addressing national development priorities. By bringing together knowledge, expertise and innovation, the Community Health Research Conference is expected to generate valuable insights that support stronger health systems and improved healthcare outcomes.
As preparations gather momentum, the conference stands as another example of Eswatini’s commitment to building a resilient, people-centred healthcare system that leaves no community behind and ensures that quality healthcare remains within reach for all.
