PIGG’S PEAK – While many couples were marking Valentine’s Day with love and celebration, tragedy struck in Piggs Peak where a young woman lost her life in a brutal incident that has left the nation grieving and calling for stronger action against gender-based violence.
Police are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old woman from Hlane whose body was discovered along a pathway in the Manjengeni area on Saturday afternoon at around 2pm. Authorities confirmed that the victim had sustained multiple stab wounds to the head and neck inflicted with a sharp object.
Preliminary findings suggest the fatal attack may have followed a heated argument between the deceased and a man believed to be her boyfriend.
A passer-by who was returning home from work reportedly witnessed the incident and attempted to intervene, but the suspect fled the scene. The witness quickly rushed to the Mananga border post to alert authorities, prompting an immediate police response.
The Royal Eswatini Police Service has since launched an intensive investigation and is urging members of the public to assist with any information that could help bring the suspect to justice.
The shocking incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for communities to unite against gender-based violence and protect vulnerable members of society. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist the investigation.
As the nation reflects on this tragedy, voices across communities are renewing calls for stronger awareness, prevention efforts, and collective action to end violence and safeguard the lives of women and girls.
