MALKERNS – Fifteen years of love, 15 years of music and a shared passion for cooking took centre stage as Mi Casa frontman J’Something and his wife, Cordelia “Coco” da Fonseca, brought their Afro-Fusion Sonic Food Experience to Eswatini, captivating audiences at the Amphitheatre during the second day of the 2026 Standard Bank Luju Food and Lifestyle Festival on August 2, 2026.
The celebrated South African creative duo blended culinary artistry, music and personal storytelling in an intimate showcase that celebrated their journey together while giving festival-goers a taste of the special connection between food and love.
The experience reflected the spirit of this year’s Luju theme, Kwasukasukela, as the couple shared stories of their relationship while preparing dishes inspired by their years of cooking together.
As J’Something prepared fish while adding carefully selected flavours, including a touch of white wine vinegar, Coco took the audience back to the early days of their relationship and revealed how the kitchen became a special place where their bond grew stronger.
She described J’Something as a once-shy individual who found comfort away from the spotlight.
“You might not believe it, but this guy used to be really shy,” Coco told the audience, drawing laughter and applause.
She explained that when J’Something was not performing, he preferred spending time at home, where the couple discovered a shared passion for cooking.
“When he wasn’t outside on stage, all he wanted to do was stay at home. We spent so much time cooking together, and Jay would make up all these incredible things,” she said.
The crowd erupted with laughter when Coco playfully revealed what those quiet moments at home involved.
“We cooked!” she said, sending the audience into cheers.
One of the highlights of the showcase was the preparation of their special sangria recipe, which holds sentimental value as it was part of their early dating memories.
“What we’re going to make for you guys is something we actually had on one of our indoor dates,” Coco shared.
J’Something then revealed the significance of the recipe.
“It was our first date, and I made sangria,” he said.
Coco quickly added a humorous twist to the story, telling the audience that J’Something had sought assistance while preparing the drink.
“Yes, but he called his mother for the recipe,” she joked, leaving the crowd in laughter.
Beyond the cooking itself, the couple shared valuable insights on creating balanced flavours, with J’Something explaining the importance of acidity when preparing dishes.
“I’ve added a little bit more white wine vinegar because acidity is really important,” he said while putting the finishing touches on the meal.
After the cooking session, festival-goers were given the opportunity to taste the dishes prepared by the couple, turning the showcase into a fully immersive culinary experience.
The tasting allowed attendees to connect with the flavours behind the stories, as they enjoyed the food while celebrating the couple’s unique blend of love, creativity and culture.
J’Something and Coco’s appearance proved that food can be much more than a meal — it can be a language of love, a keeper of memories and a bridge that brings people together.
Their Sonic Food Experience left the Amphitheatre audience with a lasting reminder that the most meaningful moments are often created through simple ingredients, shared stories and the people we cherish.
