ENDZINGENI— Member of Parliament Gcina Magagula, affectionately known as Singalwi, and Mbabane Municipality Mayor Thulani Mkhontfo, both former learners of Endzingeni Nazarene High School and former classmates, returned to their alma mater yesterday to inspire learners and extend support to the school during its Awards and Farewell Function.
The two alumni delivered powerful and motivational speeches, using their personal journeys to encourage learners to remain focused on their education, overcome challenges and believe that their current circumstances do not determine their future.
Magagula reflected on his time as a learner at Endzingeni, sharing some of the struggles he faced during his school days. He told learners how he persevered through those challenges and eventually became an extension officer before venturing into business and establishing himself in the transport industry.
In addition to motivating the learners, Magagula made a tangible contribution to the school by donating customized pens to the Grade 11 learners to assist and motivate them as they prepare for their examinations.
He also pledged to provide full sports gear for all sporting activities at the school, extending his support beyond academics to the development of learners through sport.
Mayor Mkhontfo also demonstrated his commitment to his former school by pledging to provide new sports gear for the school’s soccer team.
The contributions from the two alumni were received as a demonstration of their continued connection to Endzingeni and their willingness to give back to the institution that formed part of their educational journey.
The fact that Magagula and Mkhontfo were classmates during their time at Endzingeni added significance to their return, as the two have since progressed into leadership and professional roles in society.
Their messages centred on perseverance, hard work and making use of opportunities, with their own journeys serving as examples to learners that challenges encountered during school years do not necessarily define one’s future.
The Awards and Farewell Function provided a platform for the school to recognise and celebrate learners’ achievements while bidding farewell to those preparing to move on to the next stage of their education.
Through their speeches, donations and pledges, the two alumni not only celebrated the school’s achievements but also demonstrated how former learners can contribute to the development of their former school and inspire the next generation
