EZULWINI – Access to quality education in Eswatini is taking a digital leap as the Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) hands over 68 technological gadgets to the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) to strengthen digital learning across the country, particularly in rural areas.
The equipment was officially received by Minister of Education Owen Nxumalo during a brief handover ceremony, which took place on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Ezulwini at ESCCOM, and was also attended by Minister of ICT, Honourable Savannah Maziya.
Speaking at the ceremony, ESCCOM Chief Executive Officer Mvilawemphi Dlamini said the donation is part of the Commission’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to technology in schools.
“Today, we gather not only to hand over equipment, but to celebrate the power of partnership, vision, and unwavering belief in the potential of every child in Eswatini,” Dlamini said. “This moment marks another step forward in our national journey to build an education system where no learner is left behind, where access to knowledge is not defined by geography, resources, or circumstance.”
He highlighted the Eswatini Learning Passport (ELP) as a key initiative in bridging the digital divide. “The equipment we hand over today carries a purpose far greater than its physical form. These are tools of empowerment tools that will amplify the voices of teachers, strengthen the work of curriculum specialists, and bring the Learning Passport to life in classrooms and communities across our nation,” Dlamini added.
Minister of ICT, Hon. Savannah Maziya, echoed these sentiments, stressing the role of digital tools in transforming education. “The Learning Passport is a clear illustration of how technology can advance curriculum reform, improve teaching and learning, and prepare young people for a world where digital skills are as basic as reading and writing,” she said. “Today’s equipment will strengthen the National Curriculum Centre’s capacity to digitise, upload, and manage content, support teachers championing blended learning, and ensure that the Learning Passport remains dynamic and relevant.”
Minister of Education Owen Nxumalo described the donation as a milestone in Eswatini’s digital education journey. “Today, we gather not just to witness a handover of equipment, but to affirm a national vision: a vision of an education system that is digital by design, inclusive by principle, and future-ready by purpose,” he said. “These digital devices represent more than infrastructure; they are foundational assets for national capacity development and human capital formation.”
The digital infrastructure being deployed includes desktop computing units, interactive display technologies, data projection systems, and portable computing devices. These will support multimedia instruction, real-time content delivery, performance analytics, and adaptive learning methodologies.
The devices will be piloted In four schools one from each region of the country serving as innovation hubs and demonstration sites for the effective integration of the ELP into day-to-day teaching.
Both Ministers emphasized the importance of partnerships in ensuring the success of the initiative. “This progress has only been possible because different institutions chose to work together. The Ministry of Education and Training brought the vision and curriculum mandate, UNICEF brought global experience, and ESCCOM brought resources and technical expertise,” said Minister Maziya.
ESCCOM Chief Executive Officer Mvilawemphi Dlamini concluded with a call to action for teachers, learners, and partners: “Your courage to try, to learn and to innovate paves the way for thousands who will follow in your footsteps. When we invest in digital learning, we are not simply buying equipment. We are expanding opportunity, protecting the right to education, and preparing a generation to thrive in a digital world.”
The ceremony underscored Eswatini’s ongoing commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality education, powered by technology, for all learners regardless of location.
