MALKERNS — The 2026 EU Bushfire Schools Festival continues to shine as a powerful youth development platform equipping pupils with creative, digital, and life skills needed for a fast-changing future, as young people were inspired to see education not only as classroom learning, but as a gateway to innovation, opportunity, and personal growth.
Speaking on May 28, 2026, to more than 600 enthusiastic pupils gathered at the vibrant venue of House on Fire, the European Union Ambassador to Eswatini, Karsten Mecklenburg, delivered a hopeful and forward-looking message encouraging young people to embrace creativity as a core skill for success in today’s evolving world.
The engagement formed part of the 2026 EU Bushfire Schools Festival, a growing national platform that blends education, arts, and innovation to prepare pupils for the future of work.
The festival came alive as pupils showcased their talents across different categories, including dance, poetry, drama, music, and other creative performances, turning the event into a vibrant celebration of youth expression and artistic excellence.
Mecklenburg encouraged pupils to think creatively and confidently, stressing that digital skills are deeply rooted in imagination, problem-solving, and the ability to transform ideas into practical solutions.
“Digital skills boil down to creativity,” he said, urging pupils to “think out of the box” and explore how creativity can be applied in jobs, products, and everyday challenges.
He further inspired pupils to appreciate every learning experience, noting that even fun, interactive activities carry valuable lessons that help shape future careers and life skills.
“Today, have fun, enjoy the day, but also think about the value of creativity skills in your life,” he added—a message that resonated strongly with both pupils and educators present.
Education stakeholders at the festival welcomed the strong emphasis on skills development, noting that such platforms are playing an important role in nurturing a generation that is more confident, innovative, and prepared for emerging opportunities in the creative and digital economy.
