MBABANE – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has urged emaSwati to shift their attention from divisions and instead embrace the values and aspirations that unite the nation,
The Prime Minister said an excessive focus on negativity only hinders national progress.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Eswatini Positive News Managing Editor Mbongeni Ndlela,, the Prime Minister said every society experiences differences of opinion, but these should never overshadow the greater national interest.
He encouraged citizens to deliberately cultivate a culture of unity, understanding and constructive engagement, stressing that the country’s development depends on people working together despite their differences.
“We must focus on what unites us rather than what divides us,” said the Prime Minister. “When we only concentrate on the negatives, we hold ourselves and our country back.”
To illustrate his point, Dlamini likened the situation to someone looking at a clean white T-shirt but choosing to focus only on a tiny black spot at the edge.
He said many people often ignore the overwhelming positives before them and instead spend their energy discussing isolated shortcomings.
According to the Prime Minister, this mindset creates unnecessary pessimism and distracts the nation from recognising the progress that is being made.
He also used the example of marriage, saying even couples who deeply love each other inevitably experience disagreements from time to time.
The existence of those disagreements, he said, does not mean the relationship has failed.
Similarly, he noted that people working together in government, business or any other institution will not always share the same views.
Differences in opinion, he said, are a natural part of human interaction and should not be interpreted as signs that everything is falling apart.
Instead, he urged emaSwati to appreciate that diversity of thought can strengthen decision-making when it is managed with respect and a shared commitment to the country’s wellbeing.
Dlamini said dwelling on conflict, criticism and negativity ultimately benefits no one and slows the country’s development agenda.
He stressed that national unity is essential if Eswatini is to achieve its long-term economic and social goals.
During the wide-ranging interview, the Prime Minister also reflected on government’s vision for accelerating economic growth and improving the lives of citizens.
He said government remains committed to creating conditions that will enable the country to attain double-digit economic growth through strategic investments, improved productivity and expanded economic opportunities.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that government continues to face a number of challenges but expressed confidence that these can be overcome through collaboration.
He also addressed the fight against corruption, saying government is investing in the fight against corruption. He stated that the intention is to make anti-corruption the nation’s culture.
On service delivery, Dlamini said government is working to improve the efficiency of public institutions so that citizens receive quality services in a timely manner. He stated that there is too much bureaucratic red tape that is hindering service delivery
He emphasised that while challenges remain, the country should not lose sight of the progress already achieved in various sectors.
The Prime Minister reiterated that building a stronger Eswatini requires collective responsibility and a willingness by all citizens.
The Prime Minister urged citizens to replace negativity with optimism and to work together in shaping a prosperous future for Eswatini.
