LOBAMBA – Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima has expressed strong appreciation to His Majesty King Mswati III for announcing plans for a new 40 000-seater stadium, describing it as a timely and forward-looking intervention to address the country’s growing demand for modern sports infrastructure.
Nzima said Eswatini’s current sporting facilities are ageing and no longer adequately accommodate the increasing number of supporters who attend major football events. He noted that the King’s call for the fast-tracking of the new stadium reflects a deep understanding of national sporting needs and the development of Emaswati sport.
The Minister highlighted that during major tournaments such as the Ingwenyama Cup, stadiums often reach full capacity, leaving many fans unable to access venues, which in turn affects the overall match-day experience and the continued growth of local football culture.
Nzima commended His Majesty King Mswati III for prioritising sports development and infrastructure investment, stating that the proposed stadium will not only improve spectator experience but also enhance Eswatini’s capacity to host regional and international sporting events.
He further emphasised that improved facilities will contribute to youth development, boost sports tourism, and strengthen the country’s sporting economy. According to him, the vision for a modern 40 000-seater stadium aligns with national aspirations of transforming Eswatini into a competitive sporting nation.
The announcement, made during the prestigious Ingwenyama Cup at Somhlolo National Stadium, was warmly received by football fans, who view the development as a long-awaited milestone for Eswatini sport.
Nzima concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the King’s vision and ensuring that sports infrastructure development remains a national priority for future generations.
The proposed stadium is expected to usher in a new chapter in Eswatini’s sporting history, strengthening unity, pride, and development through sport.
