MBABANE— A new era is dawning for Eswatini’s creative sector as the OGF Movement prepares to officially launch its dedicated Theatre Group on 27 March 2026 at the historic Mbabane Theatre Club.
This initiative marks a major step towards reviving and sustaining the local theatre industry.
The Theatre Group is designed as a long-term platform, offering local actors and creatives regular opportunities to develop their craft and present their work. By reintroducing theatre as a vibrant and relevant art form, the OGF Movement aims to showcase the wealth of talent often overlooked within Eswatini’s artistic communities.
Tony Anthonimass Mabaso, leader of the OGF Movement, explained the deeper purpose behind the project: “We are not just creating a theatre group; we are cultivating a sustainable ecosystem for our storytellers. Our goal is to ensure that local theatre becomes a mirror for our society—a place where our lived experiences, challenges, and triumphs are given the stage they deserve.”
Rooted in the belief that performance is a vital tool for dialogue and reflection, the movement seeks to restore both visibility and value to the stage. Their mission is to create a sustainable space for storytelling that connects deeply with the realities of everyday life.
The debut production, IMIMOYA, is designed to confront social pressures affecting communities. Mabaso explains: “This play addresses the unseen forces we all navigate. We want the audience to leave not only entertained, but inspired to reflect on issues such as corruption, unemployment, and societal pressures. Theatre should provoke thought while offering a space for engagement and dialogue.”
Through dynamic performances, IMIMOYA explores themes including corruption, unforgiveness, and unemployment, translating complex societal challenges into relatable experiences. The production aims to engage, inspire, and motivate audiences to appreciate the power of local storytelling.
The launch event is framed as both a celebration of homegrown talent and a call to action for the public to support the creative industry. Residents are encouraged to attend, reconnect with the stage, and witness the beginning of a renewed theatrical movement.
The event is scheduled to begin at 6 00 PM on 27 March 2026 at the Mbabane Theatre Club, promising an evening of inspiration, reflection, and entertainment.
