EZULWINI – King’s Cup sponsors say their investment in the prestigious golf tournament is part of the private sector’s contribution to nation-building, community development and creating opportunities in Eswatini.
Speaking on behalf of the sponsors during the King’s Cup Gala Dinner at the ICC Ezulwini Palazzo on Friday night, Nedbank Eswatini Managing Director Fikile Nkosi said the private sector viewed its involvement in the tournament as both a privilege and a responsibility.
“As members of the private sector, we recognise that nation-building is a collective responsibility,” Nkosi said.
She said through partnerships such as the King’s Cup, businesses were able to support platforms that strengthen communities, create opportunities and contribute to the continued development of the Kingdom.
Nkosi said the tournament had grown beyond being a sporting event since its inception in 2004, evolving into an institution that promotes excellence, unity, friendship and national pride.
She said one of the tournament’s greatest strengths was its ability to bring together people from different backgrounds, industries, communities and countries through their shared passion for golf.
According to Nkosi, these interactions help strengthen relationships, foster mutual respect and create friendships that extend beyond the golf course.
She also said the King’s Cup provided an important platform for showcasing Eswatini, particularly the warmth of its people, the beauty of the country and the values that define the nation.
The Nedbank Eswatini MD said sponsors were encouraged by the growing interest in golf among EmaSwati, particularly young people.
She said the tournament had the potential to inspire more people to take up the sport and demonstrate that discipline, determination and commitment could lead to excellence both on and off the course.
Nkosi further said the success of the King’s Cup demonstrated what could be achieved when different stakeholders worked together towards a common objective.
She said the private sector had a role to play in supporting platforms that strengthen communities and create opportunities, adding that nation-building could not be left to one sector of society.
She also congratulated the golfers who participated in this year’s tournament, commending their skill, perseverance and sportsmanship.
Nkosi expressed appreciation to His Majesty King Mswati III for his continued patronage of the tournament, as well as the organising committee, players, officials, volunteers and other stakeholders.
She said the collective contribution of these stakeholders continued to elevate the King’s Cup and strengthen its legacy.
The sponsors’ message comes as the 22nd edition of the King’s Cup continues to position itself as an important sporting and tourism event, attracting golfers and stakeholders from Eswatini, the region and beyond.
Nkosi said sponsors hoped the tournament would continue to flourish as a symbol of excellence, unity, partnership and national pride for generations to come.
