MBABANE— Selusiwe Sinaye Matsebula, a multi-talented creative, is redefining artistry in Eswatini through authenticity, spirituality and fearless self-expression across music, poetry, fashion and performance.
Known on stage as Purple Lotus and in poetry circles as Poetic Dime, Selusiwe embodies her personal mantra of authenticity, creativity, diversity and divinity. A young mother, sister and aunt, she describes herself as a “purple daughter of the soil,” representing both a diamond in the rough and a lotus boldly blooming in life’s pool.
Her artistic journey began in high school, where literature in Form Four sparked her love for expression. However, her full artistic identity emerged in 2021, a year after finishing school, when she intentionally explored ways to tell her story. Growing up amid Mbabane’s urban energy, intertwined with strong traditional roots, shaped her into a versatile creative firmly grounded in identity and belief.
The stage names she has chosen carry deep symbolism. “Purple” reflects spirituality and chakra alignment, while “Lotus” represents growth, resilience and rebirth. “Poetic Dime” captures her sharp artistic sensibility, emphasising her uniqueness as a rare gem.
Although Selusiwe thrives as a singer, songwriter, model, MC, stylist and media personality, dance remains her first love. She discovered it at the age of five, describing it as both an adrenaline rush and a calming coping mechanism that has shaped her artistry and discipline.
Currently pursuing an Associate Degree in Public Relations at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, she is refining her brand professionally, mastering communication, ethics and strategic collaboration to strengthen her creative ventures.
A fashion enthusiast, Purple Lotus views style as a form of communication. “Fashion gives people perspective before you even speak,” she explains, highlighting the power of intentional presentation in building her identity.
Looking ahead, Selusiwe hopes her journey inspires others to break barriers, reject feelings of inferiority and embrace unity within Eswatini’s creative sector. Her message resonates clearly: grow together, build together and thrive together. Through her music, poetry, performance and fashion, Purple Lotus continues to demonstrate that art is not only self-expression but a vehicle for empowerment and cultural transformation.
