MBABANE— The runway may have been in Pretoria, but for one young Eswatini model, every step carried the spirit of home.
The aspiring model recently represented Eswatini at the CBB Discovery 2026 Fashion Show, held on August 1 at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, turning a modelling opportunity into a powerful moment of representation.
For her, the event was more than fashion, lights and cameras. It was an opportunity to show that young talent from Eswatini can also command attention on bigger stages.
“Being part of CBB Discovery wasn’t just about modelling but representation. From Mbabane to Pretoria, backstage I wasn’t just a model, but a girl from Eswatini who was young and fearless,” she said.
The show brought together designers and models from different countries, giving the Eswatini model valuable exposure while allowing her to strengthen her professional skills and industry network.
Still growing in her modelling journey, she said working with creatives from different backgrounds has motivated her to keep improving while pursuing recognition beyond the country’s borders.
One of her biggest highlights was the backstage experience, particularly the fittings and the energy among models as they cheered each other on.
“Getting compliments from people and other designers was unforgettable as it shows that they see the great in me,” she said.
Beyond the glamour, the experience also offered lessons in resilience. She learnt that perfection should not be the goal because there must always be room for growth, while criticism should be viewed as an opportunity to improve rather than an attack.
“Most importantly, teamwork is everything,” she added.
Raised and schooled at Sigangeni, the model only began pursuing modelling after completing college last year. CBB Discovery marked her third fashion show, following appearances in Pretoria and Springs.
However, limited sponsorship has previously prevented her from attending other shows.
She now hopes her growing recognition in Pretoria will open doors to sponsors, designers and photographers, while inspiring other Eswatini models to explore international platforms.
Outside modelling, she enjoys DIY projects, photoshoots and listening to music.
