UEDF ATHLETES EXCEL IN MEN’S AND WOMEN’S VOC HALF MARATHON

MBABANE– Athletes from the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF), Sipho Mamba and Sanelisiwe Mphaphu, delivered outstanding performances to win the men’s and women’s 21km races respectively at the Voice of the Church (VOC) Half Marathon held at Zakhele Sports Ground .

The event attracted a large number of participants from across the country, including elite runners, corporate teams and fitness enthusiasts, all competing in various race categories as part of a growing calendar of community-based sporting events in Eswatini.

Mamba surged ahead in the men’s race to claim victory, while Mphaphu continued her impressive form in long-distance running by securing top position in the women’s category, completing a notable double triumph for the UEDF.

The VOC Half Marathon has become a key platform for promoting health and fitness, with runners taking to the course from as early as 6am. Participants competed across different distances, encouraging inclusivity and allowing athletes of varying fitness levels to take part.

Among the participants were staff members from the Central Bank of Eswatini(CBE) who joined the event as part of their wellness initiatives. According to information sourced from the CBE social media page the bank emphasised the importance of physical activity, noting that staff well-being remains a priority and that such events provide an opportunity to promote a healthy lifestyle beyond the workplace.

The race also drew support from various stakeholders, including Chief Fire Officer Luke Lushaba, who was among those present during the event, highlighting the significance of multi-sector participation in community sporting activities.

Sporting events such as the VOC Half Marathon continue to play a vital role in encouraging active lifestyles, strengthening community bonds, and providing a competitive platform for local athletes to showcase their talent.

With increasing participation and corporate involvement, the marathon reflects a growing national focus on wellness, fitness, and the development of athletics in Eswatini.
