LOBAMBA –The future of Eswatini netball came alive at Olympafrica in Lobamba as young athletes showcased talent, determination, and teamwork during the SBS Juniors U13 Netball Tournament, where ABC Academy emerged champions after impressive performances throughout the competition.
Siyakhula finished as runners-up and Rose Angels secured the bronze medal in a tournament that highlighted the continued growth of junior netball development in the country. The tournament brought together promising young netball players from different teams in an atmosphere filled with excitement, energy, and growing support for youth sport, as parents, coaches, and supporters gathered to witness the rising generation of athletes compete on the national stage.
ABC Academy were praised for their determination and composure throughout the competition, demonstrating consistency and a never-give-up attitude on their way to lifting the championship trophy. Siyakhula also impressed with disciplined performances and teamwork, while Rose Angels secured third place after a spirited display in the bronze medal contest.
Speaking after the tournament, Netball Association President Jabulile Thwala congratulated all participating players for their effort, discipline, and sportsmanship during the competition. “You showed courage, discipline, and love for the game, and that makes us proud. At this stage, it is not only about winning but also about learning teamwork, respecting opponents, and continuing to grow as young athletes,” said Thwala.
She encouraged the players to continue working hard and listening to their coaches as they develop their talent further.“The future of netball in Eswatini is in your hands, and from what we witnessed during the tournament, the future looks bright,” she added.
Thwala also acknowledged the role played by parents and guardians in supporting youth sport, thanking them for ensuring children attend training sessions and tournaments.
Youth competitions continue to play an important role in identifying and nurturing sporting talent in Eswatini, while also promoting confidence, discipline, leadership, and healthy lifestyles among young athletes.
Stakeholders believe tournaments such as the SBS Juniors U13 competition are vital in strengthening the future of netball nationally.
Supporters applauded the level of talent displayed during the tournament, describing the event as another positive step towards building a stronger foundation for netball development in Eswatini.
