MANYOVU– The official inauguration of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project at Manyovu High School was more than just the unveiling of new facilities, it was a celebration of culture, unity and community partnership.
The event attracted government officials, development partners, traditional leaders, educators, parents and learners, who gathered to celebrate the successful completion of the project spearheaded by Engineers in Action in partnership with the Ministry of Economic Planning and Development’s Microprojects Programme.
The ceremony came alive with vibrant traditional performances by learners, who entertained guests through Ummiso dance, Sibhaca and Ingadla, showcasing Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage. Dressed in colourful traditional attire, the learners captivated the audience with energetic performances that reflected pride in their culture while celebrating a development that will benefit generations of students.
The cultural performances highlighted the importance of preserving Eswatini’s traditions while embracing development initiatives that improve the quality of education. The celebrations also featured a poem and addresses from various stakeholders, all emphasizing the significance of investing in learners’ health and well-being.
The newly inaugurated WASH project is expected to enhance access to clean water, improve sanitation facilities and promote proper hygiene practices at the school. The initiative will contribute to a healthier learning environment, reduce the spread of waterborne diseases and encourage better school attendance among learners.
Speaking during the inauguration, Engineers in Action WASH Programme Manager Patrick Matte thanked all stakeholders for their commitment and support throughout the implementation.
He encouraged the school community to take ownership of the facilities by maintaining them properly to ensure they continue serving future generations.
The inauguration served as a reminder that successful development is achieved through collaboration between communities, government and development partners. As songs, dances and words of appreciation filled the atmosphere, the event celebrated not only the completion of a vital infrastructure project but also the shared commitment to improving education, health and the future of Manyovu High School.
