MBABANE– Eswatini has received international recognition for its commitment to strengthening tax administration and promoting transparency, following praise at the 19th Meeting of the Africa Initiative on Tax Transparency held from June 30 to July 2, 2026 in Cotonou, Benin.

The high-level gathering, organised under the auspices of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Global Forum, brought together representatives from dozens of African countries to review progress in combating tax evasion, illicit financial flows and improving domestic resource mobilisation.

In its official statement of outcomes, the meeting highlighted the strides being made by African countries in implementing international tax transparency standards and strengthening cooperation among tax authorities. Eswatini was among the countries recognised for its active participation and commitment to advancing the objectives of the Africa Initiative.

A notable achievement cited during the meeting was Eswatini’s endorsement of the Resolution aimed at maximising the use of Exchange of Information on Request (EOIR) to tackle tax evasion and illicit financial flows. Delegates welcomed Eswatini’s signing of the resolution, describing it as an important contribution towards strengthening transparency and accountability across the continent.

The meeting also launched the Tax Transparency in Africa 2026 Progress Report, which documented significant gains made by African countries in the use of tax transparency tools. According to the report, participating countries collectively identified hundreds of millions of euros in additional revenue through enhanced information exchange and cooperation.

Eswatini’s recognition comes as the country continues efforts to modernise its tax administration systems and enhance international cooperation in line with global standards. The acknowledgement by fellow African nations and international partners places the Kingdom among countries actively supporting initiatives aimed at curbing illicit financial flows and improving revenue collection.

The praise is expected to bolster Eswatini’s reputation within regional and international tax cooperation platforms, while reinforcing confidence in the country’s commitment to good governance, transparency and sustainable economic development.
